Tutorial: Creating a Death Counter with OBS Source in Mixitup Bot

Step 1: Download, Install, and Setup Mixitup Bot

Ensure you have Mixitup Bot installed and configured on your system.

Step 2: Download, Install, and Setup OBS

Download and install OBS on your computer.
Enable Websocket Connect in OBS

Step 3: Configure Mixitup Bot

  • Open Mixitup Bot and click on the Menu Icon in the upper left-hand side.
  • Name the command: Death+ (Feel free to get creative, but simplicity works well).
  • Name the trigger: death+.
  • In the action dropdown, select Counter (create and update).
  • Activate the Toggle for Save to File.
  • (Optional) Toggle Reset on Load if you want the counter to reset every time you load Mixitup.

Step 4: Set Counter Details

  • Navigate to the Counters Folder where your counters will be saved.
  • You can create multiple counters (e.g., DarkSoulsDeath – !SoulsDeath, Resident Evil – !EvilDeath) by setting up separate commands.
  • Counter Name: Deaths
  • Action: Update
  • Amount: +1

Step 5: Create Chat Message

  • In the action dropdown, select Chat Message.
  • In the chat message field, craft a message that suits your community. For example: “NerdTitan has died $deaths times.”
  • Click Save.

Step 6: Configure OBS

  • Open OBS.
  • Click Add Source, then choose Text (GDI+).
  • Name: Death Counter
  • Font: Choose a bold font/color that fits your style.
  • Check Read from File.
  • Browse for the counters file (typically located at C:\Users<username>\AppData\Local\MixItUp\Counters).
  • Click Ok.

Step 7: Adjust and Fit Counter in OBS Overlay

  • Adjust and fit the death counter onto your OBS overlay.
  • Create a Text source saying “Deaths:” and align it with the counter.

Now, your Mixitup Bot death counter is set up and integrated with OBS for your streaming overlay. Each death in your game will trigger the counter and update the display on your stream.
