Article: Unlocking Growth: The Power of Streaming with Purpose

Let’s delve into the concept of streaming less. If you’ve been a part of Streamer Conversations or tuned into Twitch streams, you’ve likely heard this idea mentioned. This motto was coined by a dear friend and mentor nearly five years ago, aiming to convey a crucial message about sustainable growth in the streaming world.

The essence of “streaming less” lies in the recognition that streaming every day for extended hours doesn’t guarantee platform growth. Although Twitch has introduced features like Featured Clips and Stories to aid discoverability, substantial growth often requires leveraging other platforms. So, when I advocate for streaming less, it means reallocating some days from your schedule to focus on essential activities.

What does it mean?

  • Streaming every day for extended hours doesn’t guarantee growth on the platform.
  • While Twitch introduces features like Featured Clips and Stories for discoverability, significant growth often comes from other platforms.
  • “Streaming less” means reallocating days from your schedule to focus on crucial activities.

Key Activities to Focus On:

  1. Content Creation:
    • Allocate time to create engaging content.
  2. VOD Review:
    • Watch your VODs to identify areas for improvement.
    • Look for ways to enhance your overall performance.
  3. Performance Category:
    • Assess workflows that need fixing.
    • Improve segways and other performance aspects.

My Routine:

  1. VOD Analysis Day:
    • Spend a day watching my VOD, making markers for potential clips.
    • Identify areas where audio may need fixing.
  2. Community Engagement Day:
    • Pick a day each week to watch other streamers and spend time in their communities.
    • Focus more on streamers whose content I genuinely enjoy.
    • Be a viewer, take off your streaming hat, and have some fun.
  3. Content Creation Days:
    • Allocate a day or two to record, edit, and schedule the posting of short-form content.

My Experience:

  • Before contributing to this website, I streamed three days a week, each session lasting three hours.
  • While longer sessions are possible, the optimal growth range tends to be within 3-5 hours.

In summary, Exploring the ‘streaming less’ concept emphasizes sustainable growth in streaming. Coined by a mentor five years ago, it challenges the notion that daily extended streaming ensures platform growth. Twitch’s features like Featured Clips help, but true growth often requires leveraging other platforms. Advocating for ‘streaming less’ means reallocating days for content creation, VOD reviews, and performance enhancements. A personalized approach involves specific days for watching VODs, engaging in others’ communities, and recording/editing short-form content. Before contributing to the website, the author streamed three days a week, finding the 3-5 hour range optimal for growth.
