Tutorial: How to Add Scene Change Buttons to Your Elgato Stream Deck

In this tutorial, we’ll walk you through the process of adding scene change buttons to your Elgato Stream Deck for easier scene management in your streaming software, like OBS Studio. Make sure you’ve already installed and set up your Stream Deck before following these steps.

Prerequisites:

  • Elgato Stream Deck software installed.
  • OBS Studio software installed.
  • A Twitch account linked to your Elgato Stream Deck (if you plan to use Twitch integration).
  • The OBS Plugin by Corsair installed (if not already).

Step 1: Link Your Twitch Account (Optional, but useful for Twitch streamers)

  1. Open the Elgato Stream Deck software on your computer.
  2. Go to “Preferences” in the top menu.
  3. Click on “Accounts.”
  4. Hit the plus icon in the bottom left corner to add your Twitch account.
  5. Log in to your Twitch account through the provided dialog.

Step 2: Ensure OBS Plugin is Installed

  1. In the Stream Deck software, click on “Marketplace” in the top menu.
  2. Search for and install the “OBS Plugin” by Corsair if it’s not already installed.

Step 3: Open OBS Studio

Before you proceed, make sure OBS Studio is open because Stream Deck will need to connect to it.

Step 4: Create Scene Change Buttons

  1. Right-click on an empty button on your Stream Deck layout.
  2. Select “Create Folder” to organize your scene change buttons.

Step 5: Name Your Folder

  1. Name your folder something descriptive like “Scenes.”

Step 6: Add Scene Change Buttons

  1. On the right-hand sidebar of your Stream Deck software, locate the drop-down menu labeled “OBS Studio.”
  2. Find “Scene” under “OBS Studio” and drag it to an open slot in your Stream Deck layout.

Step 7: Connect to OBS

  1. After dragging the “Scene” button, a panel will open, asking you to connect to your OBS.
  2. If OBS is already opened and running, you will see a drop-down menu with all your scenes from OBS.
  3. Select the scene you want to associate with this button, such as “Starting Soon,” “Game Play,” “Just Chatting,” or any other scenes you’ve created in OBS.

Step 8: Title Your Scene Button

  1. Below the drop-down, you will find a text field to set the title for this scene button.
  2. Enter a title that matches the scene you’ve selected from the drop-down menu.

Step 9: Repeat for Other Scenes

  1. To add more scene change buttons, repeat steps 6 to 8 for each scene you want to control with your Stream Deck.
  2. Ensure the title matches the corresponding scene in OBS.

By following these steps, you’ve successfully added scene change buttons to your Elgato Stream Deck. Now, you can seamlessly switch between scenes in your streaming software, enhancing the quality and professionalism of your live broadcasts.
