Tutorial: How to Activate an OBS Source using Channel Point Redeem
Introduction
I aspired to incorporate a refreshing splash on my screen whenever a hydrate redeem was triggered, and this tutorial outlines the steps I took to realize this objective. We’ll walk through the necessary configurations in both OBS and MixItUp to enable you to implement a similar effect seamlessly. To begin, you’ll need to locate a suitable splash element, and fortunately, there is an extensive array of green screen elements available on platforms like YouTube that you can explore for this purpose. Let’s dive into the steps to bring this engaging feature to your stream.
Adding a Source to OBS involves a few key steps. First, download, install, and set up OBS on your computer. Once installed, open OBS, and consider using a nested scene and/or source for ease of application across multiple scenes. In this tutorial, we’ll focus on creating a nested scene to achieve this effect.
Creating a Nested Scene
- Name the scene “NS – Splash.”
- Add a source by obtaining a green screen splash video file, preferably in .mp4 format, from platforms like YouTube.
- In the source settings:
- Add the media file by selecting the splash file from your computer.
- Uncheck the loop option.
- Check “Restart playback when source becomes active.”
- Check “Close file when inactive” to optimize OBS system resources.
- Click Apply and then OK.
- Adjust the nested scene to fill your screen, considering the option to loop for adjustments.
- Add a green screen filter to the nested scene by right-clicking on it, selecting “Filters,” and adding a Color Key or Chroma Key. Adjust the Similarity and Smoothness until the green screen disappears.
- Turn off loop in the source settings.
Adding Nested Scene to Scenes
- Click “Add Scene.”
- Locate the nested scene you just created and click OK.
- Copy and paste this scene into all your other scenes for consistent playback.
Creating Channel Point Redemption in MixItUp
- Open MixItUp.
- Click the menu icon in the upper left and select “Channel Point Redemption.”
- Click “Add New” or “Edit” for Hydration Channel Point. If adding new, customize settings on your Twitch Dashboard.
Section 1 – Activate Splash:
- Find and click “Streaming Software” in the Action dropdown, click the plus to add.
- For OBS Studio, set Action Source Visibility:
- Scene Name: [NS] Hydration
- Source Name: Hydrate
- Toggle visibility to activate.
Section 2 – Wait
- In the Action dropdown, select “Wait,” add the desired duration (e.g., 5 seconds).
- Optionally, add a sound effect by selecting “Sound” in the Action dropdown.
Section 3 – Deactivate Splash
- Repeat Section 1, but set visibility to deactivate.
Section 4 – Chat Message
- In the Action dropdown, select “Chat Message,” add the message: “@$targetusername redeemed hydrate channel point redeem.”
- Click Save to apply the changes.
