Tutorial: How to have a Random Response Command in MixItUp
Download, Install, and Setup MixItUp
To begin with, let’s create a notepad file containing various random responses, with each response on a separate line.
For example:
Response 1
Response 2
Response 3
Response 4
Save this file. You may want to store it in a designated folder alongside your MixItUp files and media.
Open MixItUp
- Launch MixItUp and locate the menu button in the upper-left corner.
- Click on “Commands.”
- Select “Add New Command.”
Configure the Command
- For the Name field, input a descriptive title such as “Dad Joke.”
- In the Trigger field, specify the trigger you want, e.g., “!DadJoke.”
Add File Action
- In the Action dropdown, choose “File (Read & Write).”
- Click the Plus Icon to add this action to the command.
Specify File Reading Action
- In the Action dropdown, select “Read Random Line From File.”
- Navigate to the location where you saved your responses file (e.g., Responses.txt).
- Assign a special identifier name, such as “Responses” or “DadJoke” (you’ll need this for the next step).
Configure Chat Message Action
- In the Command Action dropdown, choose “Chat Message.”
- Click the plus icon to include it in the command sequence.
- In the Chat Message field, type
@$username $response
.Note: The variable$response
might be different depending on what you named the special identifier in the previous step.
Save Your Configuration
Click “Save” to finalize your command setup.
By following these steps, you’ve successfully created a MixItUp command that triggers a random response from your designated file when activated.
