Tutorial: How to Add Goal Overlays to Your Stream Using OBS Studio and StreamElements

Introduction: Having goal overlays on your stream, such as Sub goals and Follower goals, can significantly boost viewer engagement and incentivize them to take more actions on your stream. If you’re aiming for more followers or subscribers, adding a goal can be a game-changer. When combined with community benefits upon reaching the goal, it’s an excellent way to accelerate your follower and subscriber count. In this tutorial, we’ll walk you through the process of adding goals to OBS Studio using the StreamElements extension.

Step 1: Create an Advanced Goal Widget

To begin, you’ll need a StreamElements account. If you don’t have one yet, you can sign up at Streamelements.com. Once you have your account ready, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to your StreamElements Dashboard.
  2. Go to Streaming Tools.
  3. Select Overlays Gallery.
  4. Click on Widget.
  5. Choose “Advanced Goal Widget.”

Here, you’ll decide whether you want to create a new overlay or add the goal to an existing one. In this example, we’ll create a new overlay. Click “Continue” and give your goal widget a name. Then, click “Create My Overlay.”

Step 2: Paste Your Link Into OBS Scenes

You’ll receive a link that needs to be added to OBS Studio. Follow these steps:

  1. Copy the link provided.
  2. Open OBS Studio.
  3. Navigate to Sources.
  4. Click the “+” button.
  5. Select “Browser.”
  6. Give your browser source a name and click “OK.”

You’ll see a prompt to paste the URL copied from StreamElements into the URL box. Click “OK.” Your goal will now appear within your OBS scene.

Step 3: Edit Your Advanced Goal Widget

Customize your goal widget according to your preferences by following these steps:

  1. Open StreamElements.
  2. Go to Streaming Tools.
  3. Select “My Overlays.”
  4. Choose the overlay created in the previous step and click “Edit.” This opens the overlay editor.

When you click on “Goal Widget By: Mr Boost,” you’ll see various goal settings, including the option to display two different goals simultaneously, such as Viewer Count, Followers, Cheers, Donations, and Sub Count. For a cleaner look, it’s recommended to remove the channel name and disable User Avatar and User Nickname display.

You can also set goals for All Time, This Month, or This Week and specify the desired target amounts. Additionally, you can customize the font, theme, and other elements in this section.

If you have a custom video you’d like to play when the goal is met, you can configure it at the bottom of the settings.

Any changes made here will automatically reflect in OBS Studio, preparing your stream to go live.

Wrapping Up

That’s all there is to it. You can adjust the goal’s position within your scene to suit your needs. As viewers follow, subscribe, or contribute, the goal will automatically update inside OBS.

Remember, when setting goals, it’s essential to keep them realistic to maintain viewer engagement and motivation. A weekly goal can be an excellent choice, as it encourages viewers to take action when the goal is within reach.

Now, you’re ready to set up goals on your stream and encourage viewers to participate more actively in your content. Enjoy achieving your goals faster than ever during your streams.
