How to Use Twitch Audio Track Feature to remove undesired audio from your VOD

The Twitch VOD track feature seamlessly integrated into OBS Studio empowers you to transmit a separate audio feed for your live stream, ensuring that it differs from what your audience experiences in your Video on Demand (VOD) recordings. This feature is frequently utilized to effectively remove music or any unwanted audio elements from the VOD content that you share on Twitch.

To set it up:

  1. In OBS Studio, go to Settings > Stream and connect your Twitch account.
  2. In the Settings sidebar, select Output. Check the Enable Custom Encoder Settings box and then enable the Twitch VOD Track option.
  3. In the Audio Mixer, click the gear icon at the bottom left to open the Advanced Audio Properties window.
  4. By default, track 1 is your live audio feed and track 2 is your VOD audio feed. To exclude the “Music” source from the VOD feed, uncheck the Track 2 checkbox next to it.
  5. You can use tracks 3 through 6 to further segregate and customize your audio for post-stream editing.

Example:

You’re streaming a video game and want to play music in the background. However, you don’t want the music to be included in your VOD because you don’t have the copyright for it.

To do this, you would:

  1. Add a new audio source for your music and assign it to track 2.
  2. Uncheck the Track 2 checkbox next to the music source in the Audio Mixer.

Now, the music will be played in your live stream but will not be included in your VOD.

Tips:

  • You can use the Twitch VOD track feature for any type of audio, not just music. For example, you could use it to remove your microphone audio from your VOD if you’re recording a gameplay video.
  • You can also use the Twitch VOD track feature to create multiple audio tracks for your VOD. For example, you could create one track for your game audio and another track for your microphone audio. This can be useful for post-stream editing, such as if you want to adjust the volume levels of different audio sources.
  • If you’re using a third-party audio mixer, such as Voicemeeter, you can still use the Twitch VOD track feature by routing your audio outputs to OBS Studio.
