How to Create a Nested Scene in OBS

To make a nested scene in OBS, follow these steps:

  1. Create two or more scenes in OBS.
  2. Add the sources you want to your scenes.
  3. In the scene that you want to nest, click the + button below the Sources list.
  4. Select Scene from the list of source types.
  5. Select the scene that you want to nest from the list of scenes.
  6. Click OK.

The nested scene will now appear as a source in the main scene. You can resize and reposition the nested scene as needed.

You can also use filters and effects on nested scenes. For example, you could add a green screen filter to a nested scene to remove the background.

Nested scenes can be used to create complex and dynamic scenes. For example, you could use a nested scene to create a lower third graphic or a picture-in-picture effect.

Here are some tips for using nested scenes in OBS:

  • Use nested scenes to organize your sources and make your scenes easier to manage.
  • Use nested scenes to create complex and dynamic scenes.
  • Use filters and effects on nested scenes to customize your scenes.
  • Test your nested scenes before going live or recording to make sure they look and work as expected.

Here are some examples of common uses for nested scenes in OBS:

  • Lower third graphic: A lower third graphic is a text overlay that is typically displayed at the bottom of the screen. You can use a nested scene to create a lower third graphic that contains your name, logo, and other information.
  • Picture-in-picture effect: A picture-in-picture effect is when a smaller image or video is displayed over a larger image or video. You can use a nested scene to create a picture-in-picture effect, such as displaying your webcam feed over your gameplay.
  • Intro and outro scenes: You can use nested scenes to create complex and dynamic intro and outro scenes. For example, you could use a nested scene to create an intro scene that contains your logo, animations, and music.
  • Overlay scenes: You can use nested scenes to create overlay scenes that contain elements such as chat boxes, donation goals, and social media links.

Nested scenes can be a powerful tool for creating professional-looking broadcasts and recordings. By using nested scenes, you can create complex and dynamic scenes that are organized and easy to manage.
